Recommended System Layout

The main factor in determining the correct system and number of transducers required for ultimate protection is the hull waterline length (LWL). As the vessel hull size increases so too does the surface area in contact with the water and in turn the area requiring ultrasonic protection.

The CleanAHull Ultrasonic Antifouling Transducers are installed in strategic locations throughout the inside of your powerboats hull to provide the best transference of ultrasonic energy into the hull. This energy is then dissipated out into the water at a 180° arc from the hull itself providing bio fouling protection. Ultrasonic transference is best through solid objects that the transducers are directly attached to and there will be some attenuation (loss of signal) when ultrasound attempts to transfer to acoustically isolated items (stern drives, ips drives, shafts, rudders, etc). CleanAHull™ ultrasonic transducers can be installed directly onto isolated items such as rudders (tiller / shaft), IPS drives, Stern Drives (transom shield), thrusters, etc for ultimate protection of these devices.

During installation there is no through hull drilling required. Our systems can be installed without removing the vessel from the water.

Below is a recommended system configuration guide.  Please contact Ultra-SoniTec for assistance with your layout and to talk about protection for running gear (rudder, thruster-bow, thruster-stern, stabilizers, drives / shafts of various types, sea chest / piping, keels, keel coolers, etc).  Also, complete the Request A Quote form to have Ultra-SoniTec provide a design layout along with a quote.

Design Your Own System

Power Boat  -  Up to 30 Feet

CleanAHull Double (2 Transducers)
Optional – extra transducers for added protection with a Quad device. Vessels with twin shaft should consider a Quad for 2 extra transducer location choices.  See below about considerations for Running Gear and Discrete Equipment.

CleanAHull Quad (4 Transducers)
Optional – extra transducers can be included for added protection. Consideration should be given to targeted protection for rudders, thrusters, etc.  See below about considerations for Running Gear and Discrete Equipment.

Super Yachts

Super Yachts - Ultrasonic Antifouling Transducer Placement

Super Yachts gain the same benefits of smaller vessels when utilizing Ultra-SoniTec's Antifouling System (CleanAHull). Of course, the number of transducers is relative to the under water surface area, the thickness of the hull and substructure of the hull, as well as the Running Gear or Discrete Equipment (rudders, stabilizers, props, shafts, sea chests, raw water intakes, etc) to be protected.  Ultra-SoniTec offers a product specifically designed with higher performance capabilities to accommodate the needs of Super Yachts and Work Boats.

The following chart reflects the minimum number of transducers required for Hull Protection (not including Running Gear):

Yachts from 60 feet to 90 feet -- 6+ transducers

Yachts from 90 feet to 120 feet -- 8+ transducers

Yachts from 120 feet to 175 feet -- 12+ transducers

Yachts from 175 feet to 230 feet -- 16+ transducers

Yachts from 230 feet to 280 feet -- 20+ transducers

Yachts from 280 feet to 330 feet -- 24+ transducers

Running Gear

Ultra-SoniTec recommends special consideration for Running Gear to make sure your boat has adequate protection for the Hull and the Running Gear, as well.  Our competition has a tendency to combine Hull protection transducers and Running Gear protection transducers resulting in inferior protection.  Ultra-SoniTec realizes that the transducers that protect the Hull also contribute to protection for Running Gear but we also realize that Running Gear often requires specific transducers to do an adequate job.  The last thing a boat owner wants to do is to invest the time and money to only protect 90% of their boat.  Additional transducers to assure reasonable protection is a wise investment.

Not all Running Gear can be protected equally.  There are a number of variables that calculate in to the effectiveness of Ultrasound Protection for Running Gear.  The first being how securely the transducer is mounted to the Running Gear and if there is any joints or equivalent that would not allow the Ultrasonic Wave to fully transfer through the Running Gear.  The second relates to the effectiveness of protecting drive shafts or other gear that rely on hull mounted transducers to protect them without a direct mount to the gear.  There is some protection provided in this scenario but it is limited.  In other words, although our Ultra-SoniTec provides a great value proposition with a quick return on investment it cannot always provide full protection in all situations.

Rudders  -  recommended 1 transducer per Rudder

Keels - determined by type of keel

Stabilizers  -  recommended 1 transducer per Stabilizer

Sea Chests - typically 1-2 transducers

Thrusters - recommended 1 transducer for each Thruster

IPS Drives - recommended 1 transducer per Drive

Props and Shafts - recommended 1 transducer per Prop/Shaft

Jet Drives - recommended 1 transducer per Drive
